Star anise has a sweet, spicy, liquorice flavour. It is a dried eight pointed star, the fruit of an evergreen tree belonging to the Magnolia family and native to south-west China.

Uses:
Spencers Star Anise is one of the key flavours of Chinese cooking. It provides the dominant taste in Chinese five-spice powder. It goes well with pork, duck, soups and stir fries. The spice also adds depth to sweet dishes such as compotes of fruit and spiced fruit jams.
